Jacques-Cartier National Park - Summer

Feedback

Seeing the Jacques-Cartier National Park is a must. This magnificent territory will entertain families, challenge sports enthusiasts, and undoubtedly amaze every visitor.

You will be captivated by a vast mountain plateau carved by deep valleys. Jacques-Cartier National Park is home to one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Québec: the spectacular Jacques-Cartier Valley. A sometimes calm, sometimes turbulent river meanders through a 550-metre-deep channel. On the high plateaus, coniferous forests dominate, while deciduous trees thrive at the bottom of the steep valleys. An inspiring natural setting that radiates peace.

On site, a wide range of activities is available for you: hiking, water activities, cycling, fishing, wildlife observation, geocaching, discovery activities, events, camping, cabins, and more.

Hiking

More than 100 km of hiking trails allow you to admire the park’s most spectacular landscapes. Sometimes along a rushing river, sometimes deep within a yellow birch forest, the trails provide access to exceptional viewpoints.

In the fall, when weekend crowds are high, hikers wishing to reach the trailheads for Le Confluent, La Rivière-Sautauriski, Les Loups, La Matteucie, Le Perdreau, or Le Draveur Nord must take the shuttle from the discovery and visitor center. This service is free of charge.

Water activities

One of the park’s highlights is undoubtedly the Jacques-Cartier River. And what better way to discover the richness of the landscape than by descending its waters, sometimes calm, sometimes wild.

Like the first explorers of the Jacques-Cartier, discover this majestic valley by canoe. Ideal for whitewater enthusiasts, this fast vessel is well suited for long excursions and offers significant carrying capacity.

The park offers a wide range of watercraft (canoe, kayak, mini-raft, inner tube, paddleboard), as well as shuttle services to explore one of six available routes. Rentals are available by the hour, half-day, or full day.

Fishing

Brook trout fishing is available on the Jacques-Cartier River and on certain lakes in the L’Épaule, Jumeau, and Sautauriski sectors. Fly fishing is also available at Lake Cook from the Valley sector. In the Jacques-Cartier River, you may catch a juvenile Atlantic salmon (smolt). It must be released immediately, as salmon fishing is prohibited in the park. A daily fishing permit and fishing license are required and can be purchased at the discovery and visitor center.

Visit the website to explore all available activities.
